Diabetes mellitus is a common non communicable disease, 463 million are affected worldwide and possibly 5 million in Nigeria. There are 3 main types, T1DM, T2DM and GDM. Lifespan and quality of life in DM is less than non DM people as they have excess morbidity and mortality from acute metabolic complications, cardiovascular disease, infections and renal disease.
